Kimberli is a mom of three children, fashion designer in New York City in the past and a holder of Ms. North Carolina title in present.
Kimberli didn’t look for an easy route to obtain the title. She chose to compete in a younger category and she won!
Kimberli has also been recently nominated Top 50 most dynamic women of Charlotte published in Charlotte Magazine.
Below is a summary of our conversation.
What was your journey towards Ms. North Carolina title?
Since I was a little girl I wanted to be a miss New Jersey. I filled out a form by myself and got a big package in the mail with lots of information needed. And my parents said “NO”.
Then it came up again about three years ago, and my husband said “NO”.
And then it came up again this past fall. We went to the Pastor’s office and the Pastor asked my husband “What would it be like for you to join your wife in this adventure?”. My husband thought about it and said: “OK, you can do it”. And it’s been an adventure ever since!
What did help you to succeed and win the title?
I’ve always had a lot of inner drive. And prayer. Just really asking God to help me on the way, so God would have the glory and not me because I didn’t want to have the focus on me, rather on what I do for God and other people.
What are the main criteria to win the competition?
This pageant system is all about your platform. Platform is what you choose to promote for a greater good. For me it is homelessness and loving people who seem to be invisible or unloved and it is bringing attention to these people, raising awareness and money, donating time to help them.
Physique matters too. But instead of bathing suits you are in athletic wear.
They want overall package, it’s not about one thing.
What is a confident woman for you?
It’s a woman who is not afraid and she goes for what she wants and she doesn’t let society to bring her down. She doesn’t listen to the voices in her head that might say that she is less or she doesn’t measure up. She overcomes those voices and goes for what she wants.
What would be your advise to women?
The God has the best plan for you. Look for that path that he has for you. When you are on that path you always succeed.
Could you say few words about your photo shoot experience with me?
The experience was amazing and I had a great time. From the moment I talked to you I thought I need to work with you and I didn’t know why, just knew that I needed that!
I loved having inspiration pictures and finding my outfits. I felt beautiful from start and finish. Makeup artist was amazing and I loved the whole process. It’s a great experience and confidence builder. I tell everyone I know that they need to do it!
